In 1971, the World Foundation for Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, Inc. was established as an independent,not-for-profit organization and serves the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts and the Girl Scouts of the USA. The ultimate goal of the World Foundation is to "promote in all lawful ways for charitable and educational purposes, the success of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) and of Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting in any and all countries of the world".

Under the World Foundation, the Friends of WAGGGS USA raises funds and awareness of the vision of WAGGGS, a worldwide movement providing non-formal education where girls and young women develop leadership and life skills through self-development, challenge and adventure. Presently, WAGGGS has 144 member countries throughout the world and another 25 countries working toward membership.

"We are an organization with 10 million girls...1 voice"

The Friends of WAGGGS USA committee is comprised of 19 members (and 5 honorary members) dedicated to the promotion and continuation of the Girl Guide/Girl Scout Movement throughout the world. With the exception of years in which the National Girl Scouts of the USA Convention is held, the Friends of WAGGGS USA committee gathers in New York, with the other World Foundation Friends' groups, to report on their fundraising efforts and discuss new ideas for fund development. Participants and committee members attend these sessions at their own expense.

The funds received on behalf of the Friends of WAGGGS USA enable the World Foundation to provide grants enabling and enhancing participation in Girl Guide/Girl Scout Movement.

Most recently, WAGGGS received grants to enable 25 young South African Girl Guides to participate in the 33rd WAGGGS World Conference, to provide Associations in Eastern Europe with tailor made support to ensure sustained growth and development, and for a week long training event (Train Trainers-Leadership and Advocacy) for English speaking Membership Organizations in Africa. In addition, a grant was made to suport WAGGGS' Capital Fund, the income from which is used for the development of programs and projects in the Regions/Regional Groups, which enable more girls and young women to become involved in the Girl Guide/Girl Scout Movement worldwide

Contributions from people like you help make these grants possible and allow girls and young women to "discover their potential"!
