Under the World Foundation, the Friends of WAGGGS USA raises funds and awareness of the vision of WAGGGS, a worldwide movement providing non-formal education where girls and young women develop leadership and life skills through self-development, challenge and adventure. Presently, WAGGGS has 144 member countries throughout the world and another 25 countries working toward membership.

The Friends of WAGGGS USA committee is comprised of 23members (and 4honorary members) dedicated to the promotion and continuation of the Girl Guide/Girl Scout Movement throughout the world. With the exception of years in which the National Girl Scouts of the USA Convention is held, the Friends of WAGGGS USA committee gathers in New York, with the other World Foundation Friends' groups, to report on their fundraising efforts and discuss new ideas for fund development. Participants and committee members attend these sessions at their own expense.

The funds received on behalf of the Friends of WAGGGS USA enable the World Foundation to provide grants enabling and enhancing participation in the Girl Guide/Girl Scout Movement.

Most recently, WAGGGS received a grant for a new curriculum entitled Global Action Theme (GAT). The theme is "girls worldwide say together we can change our world" and encourage girls and young women to make a personal commitment to change the world around them. The grant enabled WAGGGS to write and develop the curriculum, and to translate it into French and Spanish.

Scholarships for travel grants were also awarded for advocacy representation at the December 2009 climate change event in Copenhagen. Nineteen young delegates attended the COP 15 to influence decision makers to sign up to a fair, ambitious, and binding deal in the environmental debate.

A grant was awarded to the Capital Fund, earmarked for the development of projects, programs, and activities in the Regions, thus ensuring the growth of Girl Guiding/Girl Scouting worldwide.

Contributions from people like you help make these grants possible and allow girls and young women to "discover their potential"!
