The World Foundation for
Girl Guides and Girl Scouts is an independent, not-for-profit organization
established in 1971 and granted 501(c)(3) status by the U. S. Internal
Revenue Service. The two members of the World Foundation are the
World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) and Girl
Scouts of the United States of America (GSUSA).
The Foundation's purpose is "to
promote in all lawful ways for charitable and educational purposes,
the success of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts
and of Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting in any and all countries of
the world."
The Foundation supports four world
centers (Our Chalet, Our Cabaņa, Sangam, and Pax Lodge), the World
Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, and the Girl Scouts
of the USA. During the time frame of 1993 to 2002, the Foundation
awarded grants of $1,787,381 to its beneficiaries, through the generosity
of its donors.
Here
are just a few of the recent good works accomplished through the
generosity of the World Foundation:
- Travel scholarships
have been provided to girls and adults to attend conferences.
- Grants have been provided
for the anniversary celebration at Our Chalet.
- Grants have been provided
for replacement of dining room tables and benches at Our Chalet.
- Snow shoes were provided
for guests at Our Chalet.
- The guest kitchen
at Pax Lodge was renovated.
- The swimming pool
and courtyard at Sangam were repaired.
- Grants for transportation
cost allowed four Girl Scout adults to attend a seminar on HIV
and AIDS.
- International Leadereship
Modules were developed to offer many young women acress the world
the chance to undertake a professional leadershiop training program.
