The World Foundation for Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, Inc. is an independent, not-for-profit organization established in 1971 and granted 501(c)(3) status by the U. S. Internal Revenue Service. The two members of the World Foundation are the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) and the Girl Scouts of the United States of America (GSUSA).
The Foundation's purpose is "to promote in all lawful ways for charitable and educational purposes, the success of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts and of Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting in any and all countries of the world."
The Foundation supports four world centers (Our Chalet, Our Cabaña, Sangam, and Pax Lodge), the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, and the Girl Scouts of the USA. During the time frame of 1993 to 2009, the Foundation awarded grants of $2,454,971 to its beneficiaries, through the generosity of its donors.
Here are just a few of the recent grants awarded through the generosity of the World Foundation:
- Travel scholarships provided to girls and adults to attend leadership events at all World Centers and international advocacy events.
- Relocation and replacement of water well system at Our Cabaña.
- Installation of energy efficient hand dryers at Our Chalet.
- Replacement of carpets and flags displayed outside of Pax Lodge.
- Renovation of Sangam's campsite facilities and refurbishment of hot water system.
- Travel scholarship provided for a Girl Scout to attend facilitator's workshop.
